ALTA VIA 1 - Italy

Located in the heart of Italy’s eastern Alps, the Alta Via 1 features 93 miles of gorgeous scenery showcasing the region’s rugged limestone peaks.  The trail offers first-hand evidence of the history of World War I, and the area is famous for its role in the development of modern rock and ice-climbing.  After sometimes challenging days among the peaks, hikers spend the night in refuges located right on the trail or in lodges at several road crossings.
