Isolated from modern civilization’s “improvements” for centuries because of its inaccessibility, Italy’s Cinque Terre region on the Ligurian coast offers the simpler life of time in the past.  Comprised of five small towns -- some of the most historic and beautiful in Europe -- Cinque Terre is an exemplar of sustainable relationships between people and the land.  The trail connecting these towns is short, but a vast network of trails lies above the towns and offers days of walking opportunities.
