C&O CANAL - Maryland & Washington, DC, USA

The historic C&O Canal runs nearly 200 miles along the Potomac River in Maryland and Washington, DC.  Constructed in the first half of the nineteenth century, the towpath beside the canal is the ideal walking surface, reveals an impressive array of history and natural history, and has been called “the most delightful and varied greenway in America.” Campsites are spaced an easy day’s walk apart and B&Bs off the trail offer overnight accommodations.
