Congaree National Park - South Carolina
Congaree is known as the “wild heart of South Carolina”, where a vast floodplain supports a system of rivers, including the Congaree River, and forests that protect the astonishing natural diversity of the largest remaining expanse of old-growth bottomland forest in the southeastern United States. Several trails start from the Harry Hampton Visitor Center, but since much of the park is a floodplain, many portions of these trails are often underwater. The most popular trail is the 2.4-mile Boardwalk Loop that keeps visitors dry and protects delicate plant life at ground level.
