Cumberland Island is part of the extensive system of barrier islands found up and down the east coast and Gulf states of the US.  This 40,000 acre island includes rich natural and cultural resources and is laced with trails, including a pristine, 17.5 mile sand beach on the Atlantic Ocean and a 10,000 acre wilderness, making it an especially attractive destination for walkers.
