Lassen Volcanic National Park - California

Lassen Volcanic National Park isn’t as well known as most of the other national parks in the Sierra Nevada and Cascade Mountains, and maybe that’s just as well. Tucked into northeastern California, this early national park celebrates one of earth’s most powerful forces, volcanism. If fact, the park includes all of the world’s four types of volcanoes. The park’s trails offer precious moments of solitude and we recommend and describe four hikes that will allow you to deeply appreciate this park.

Though Lassen Peak appears to be sleeping peacefully, it’s still an active volcano, as the park’s boiling mud pots, fumaroles, and hot springs clearly illustrate.
