Petrified Forest National Park - Arizona
Sometimes a name says it all, but that’s not the case at Petrified Forest National Park. Yes, there are the remains of a prehistoric forest that is now petrified wood — many square miles of it. But you’ll also find Triassic fossils, an extensive prehistoric Native American presence, the vast and beautiful Painted Desert, celebration of the only stretch of historic Route 66 in the National Park System, and a vast wilderness portion of the park. We recommend and describe three hikes that will allow you to deeply appreciate this park.
